1 Samuel 16:1
“The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.”
As I read 1 Samuel 16, it really had me self-examine my life. How many times do I mourn something God has already rejected? Such as a job, relationship, or opportunity. We can’t stay there. Yes, it sucks when things do not go as planned, expected, or hoped. But we must trust and believe that God already has something better for us. You see, God could have easily revealed to Samuel who He chose to be king. But God gave him instructions rather than answers. He said, “Fill your horn with oil and be on your way.” In other words, you just have to fill yourself with God and move on in faith. I believe God often doesn’t allow us to know exactly what he has in store for us because if He told us, we wouldn’t believe it. God had already chosen David to be king but only told Samuel it was one of Jesse’s sons. For those who don’t know, out of all of Jesse’s sons, David was the last one who society would choose to be king. He didn’t look the part. He was a shepherd. But how many of you know that God uses what the world misuses. He selects the ones the world rejects. So, I do not know what you are mourning but trust and believe that God already has what you least expect. We just need to stop mourning what God has already rejected. Fill yourself with God’s word and go wherever he is sending you.
Prayer:
God, I repent for the times I stay stuck mourning what you rejected. Enable me and help me move on in faith. Fill me with your word and your truth. Guide me in this season and the ones to come. Give me faith for my unbelief. For your honor and glory, I pray, amen.
