Have you ever made a permanent decision on temporary feelings? Or have you allowed the feeling of sadness settle for less, or have you let the feeling of anxiety stop you from growing, or allowed the emotion of anger to take over? Genesis 25:29-34 is the moment Esau trades his birthright for some stew. Sounds silly, right, to give something up that will be a blessing in the future because of temporary feelings and pleasure. But unfortunately, we do that too. Although it may not be our birthright that we trade for stew, it can be our talent, calling, ministry, or purity that we give for something temporary. So what are you trading or giving up? Have you allowed your feelings to take over, causing you to lose focus on what God has for you, trading His will for your own desires? Have you traded something God has given you for temporary pleasure? I know I have. There have been times I have given up a blessing for momentary pleasure. For example, I chose to sleep in instead of spending time with God. Or instead of fasting, I eat, knowing some things ONLY happen through prayer AND fasting (Mark 9:29). Or I give up the blessing of being used by God for the temporary pleasure of being comfortable. But it is time for us to stop trading and giving up on unseen promises and blessings for temporary pleasure or feelings.
Prayer:
God, I repent for the times I have traded your promises, presence, and anointing for temporary feelings or pleasure. Help me and rebuke me in the moments I chose my will over yours. I give you complete control and surrender. Let your will and your way be done in my life, for your honor and glory, amen.
