Clothed by God

Genesis 3:1-21

Have the thoughts of “did God really say” ever popped up in your head? Or has curiosity ever led you astray? Many people are familiar with the story of Adam and Eve and the fall. What I find interesting is that in one chapter, we basically see the whole gospel. It starts with the enemy in the form of a serpent questioning what God already spoke to Eve. She answered back, engaging in the conversation, listening to the lies of the enemy, which caused her to be curious and made the fruit look good, pleasing, and desirable. She eats it, and Adam joins her. Immediately they felt the shame of being naked, and when they hear God, they try to hide from Him. Even though God already knew where they were and what they did, He called out for them and gave them an opportunity to confess. Rather than taking accountability, they blamed others for their disobedience. God gives them hope of a savior and the consequence of their action. But in the end, God clothed them.

If there are any people or thoughts in your head or heart questioning what God already spoke, do NOT entertain them. Do not listen to the lies of the enemy. Turn away and stand firm. Do not be moved by what is pleasing or desirable. And if you did fall or give in, don’t hide from God. He sees you and is calling you by name. He is waiting for you to come to Him, confessing your wrongs. There may be consequences, but consequences do not mean unforgiveness. He clothes you with his grace and mercy. Christ came, crushed the head of the serpent, and covered your sins.

Prayer,

Thank you, God, for calling me and seeking after me even when I fall. Thank you for the freedom and access to confection. Thank you for your conviction and correction. Thank you, Jesus, for taking my place and covering my sins. Thank you for clothing me with your grace and mercy. I repent of my sins and shame. Protect my thoughts, heart, and ears from everything that try’s to pull me away from you. Replace any curiosity of sin for supernatural hunger and thirst to seek you. Help me and guide me to vulnerability. In Jesus' name, I pray, amen.
