John 14:15-28
Has it ever been hard to believe that God has called, chosen, and appointed YOU for a specific mission or vision? John 14:15-28 is the passage I go to whenever I feel incapable of doing what God told me to do. This passage is Jesus' promise to send the Helper, the Advocate, the Holy Spirit. In order to fully understand this passage, you first have to fully understand the Holy Spirit is not an "it" but a "who." He is part of the Trinity, making Him God. We know God the Father is in heaven, and we know Jesus the Son is seated at His right hand. In this passage, we see where the Holy Spirit is. He is with us and in us (v17). He is the one who helps, convicts, comforts, guides, teaches, and reminds us. He speaks to us and through us. And because we have the Holy Spirit with us and in us, we do not have to be afraid or have our hearts troubled (v26). I know it is easier said than done. But we need to remember it is not through our knowledge or strength that we are able to do God's work. It is through the Holy Spirit who is working for us and through us. It's like every time someone preaches or gives a devotional, God is not only speaking through them but first speaks to them. You can't give someone something you do not already have. You already have the Holy Spirit, who is and has been working in your life. Now it's time to allow Him to work through you. It's time to take courage, leave fear, and allow yourself to be used for His honor and glory. Do not worry about the words you will say because He will give them to you. As you seek Him and have your cup overflowing with His love, joy, patience, authority, anointing, and wisdom, it will pour out to those around you because it is the Holy Spirit IN you working THROUGH you.
Prayer
Thank you, Jesus, for sending your Holy Spirit to us and for us. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for your help, guidance, and reminder. Fill me with your fruit of love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. So those around me see YOU in me and through me, for YOUR honor and YOUR glory. Whenever I speak, let them hear YOUR words so that YOUR name may be praised. That I may not be remembered, but the Holy Spirit in me is remembered, desired, and praised. All I want is you God, nothing more, nothing less. Fill me up, I make myself available for your Holy Spirit to continue to work with me, in me, for me, and through me. Amen.
