Mark 14:3-9
Have you ever felt the need to give something up that seems like a waste to do so? I know someone who loved playing basketball and say's he was pretty good at it. He was in college taking classes to become a physical therapist. But he felt a tug in his heart to stop playing basketball and drop his courses to go to Bible school. He has said when he told his mom, she was not happy about it. I am more than sure those around him thought "what a waste of talent! What a waste of time!" Mark 14: 3-9 we read about a woman who broke a very expensive perfume and poured it on Jesus' head. Those around her began to talk saying "why this waste? She could of sold it and given some of the money to the poor." But Jesus tells them to leave her alone because what she has done is something beautiful in his eyes. "She did what she could. (v8)" Many times people, including ourself only see what we are giving up and in our human eyes, it's worth more than anything. Whether it be a talent, career, object, habit, or passion. If you know that God has something else in store for you, why are you still pursuing it? Is it pride of surrender, or fear of the statement "what a waste"? The man I mentioned earlier, made the decision to take the step of faith and obedience to lay down his talent and passion for God's will. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying playing a sport or pursuing a secular talent is not beautiful in the eyes of God. But what I am saying is, live out the will of God, even if it seems crazy, or dumb. Even if God is telling you not to take a job to volunteer and serve those around you. Ignore the voices saying "what a waste" when you deny the job to pursue God. Because when you decide to walk in the will of God, you will impact and influence those around you even if you don't see, understand or hear it in the moment. Just like the woman in Scripture did not hear it at the moment, we are still reading about her till this day.
Prayer
Thank you God for always being with me and guiding me. Forgive me for the times I have allowed the fear of "what a waste" in my mind and heart. Remove any fear, doubt, and pride that prevents me from letting go to what I think is valuable. Remind me and give me the faith to know and believe if it's your vision, it's your provision. If it's your will, its your bill. Guide my steps as today I am making the decision to walk in YOUR will and purpose for my life. For your honor and glory. Amen.
