Mark 4:35-41
How many times have you felt like you're in a ring with life and it's about to knock you out? I know I have been in many of those situations. Where it is one thing after another, after another. In those moments it can be easy to feel, think, and believe you're in it alone, and that God does not see what you're going through, or he's too busy or just simply does not care. But that is far from the truth. There was a moment where the disciples felt and believed Jesus didn't care that the winds of a storm was about to knock them over. Mark 5:35-41 tells us that Jesus was sleeping while they were on a boat headed to Gerasenes. When all of a sudden, a violent gust of wind started to rock the boat. The disciples feared they were going to go over board and down. So they wake Jesus up telling him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" (v38 NIV) Jesus got up, and rebuked the winds and they became completely calm after he told them to be "Quiet! Be still! " (v39) Even after the winds were calm the disciples were still terrified and asked one another "who is this? " (v41) There are times where we are in the middle of the storm and God is silent, calm, and still. In those moments we need to remember who God is and that He is with us.
Prayer
God, thank you for your word. Thank you for reminding us of who you are and that you are always with us. Help us not to be afraid when you are silent, and remind us that you are with us in the middle of the storm. Help us be quiet and still and know that you are God. Give us faith to believe and know who you are and where you are. In Jesus name we pray.
